I think you should go with the choppy layers and maybe get your hair cut a little bit shorter------I mean like trimmed--------- and get a straightener with a higher heat level, conair is a really good straightener.

Both. The best emo style I've come to like would be the shoulder length hair with choppy layers, side sweep bangs and thinned out with the bangs a couple inches longer than the rest. That's my favorite*

Hi, I have an answer for you. I am a professional in hair. I looked at your pic and the pics of the kind of cut you want. The cut you want is layered but is also thinned out and unevenly at the ends I then looked back at your pic and remembered you said you straitened your hair. This kind of style you will have to straiten it every time.

It looks like you will need some layering but also thinned with a razor not the scissors with teeth. Some won't use them but find one who will. Good luck.
