I have gone to expensive hair salons, and bottom of the barrel hair salons, help?

I have searched far and wide for someone to give me a really good haircut, no matter where I go or who I see, its always the same, I show them pictures, I ask for layers, and I still walk out looking like I just barely got my hair trimmed, I see all these other women with great cuts, what am I not saying to these stylist to get them to give me a good cut? I have long hair and I do not want it just to lay flat, I want some volume and layers, is there a name of a haircut that fits that profile? please help :o)

Honestly? I've been a hairstylist for 13 years and I have had so many women sit in my chair that completely baffle me as to what they want. Think about what you want and be very specific. Bring in pictures ( I know you say you do). It doesn't have to be one picture. You could like the back of one haircut in a picture, and then bring another one where you like the front. So many women have no confidence when telling their hairstylist what they want. Don't tell them to 'do whatever'. It's your hair. And ask questions. Have a good consultation, and get her feedback. Talk about what you want, and discuss it until you're sure that she understands what you want. I know that some stylists are very bossy and pushy, and don't like to be told what to do, but it's your hair, and you should never have to leave a salon unhappy.

Find a stylist who listens. If you're in a chair, and you aren't comfortable with the stylist, then leave. A good relationship with your stylist is necessary.

Good luck with everything!

I love it when my clients are completely specific. It honestly upsets me when a client leaves my chair, and I know that they are unhappy. The more information, the better, I think. Report It

I recommend that when you see someone and admire their hair, go up to them and say, "you have a great hairstyle, do you mind telling me the name of your stylist and salon?" More than likely, people will be flattered and more than willing to provide you with a referral. In addition, ask them their name, so that when you visit the hairdresser, you can tell the hairdresser that they referred you. This will make the hairdresser feel like they are promoting his/her work and they might get a nice thank you or free service on their next visit.

Now, you have a list of great stylists, as well as the names of the clients. So, when you start seeing some of the stylists on the list, be sure to mention the client's name and state, " I really admired the cut n style that you gave that client and I would like mine to look similar."

You'll have to work thru a few stylists before you find the right one. But, be patient and ask people that you see where they get their hair done.

Hope that helps.
