Good longer messy haircut?

Well a couple years ago, I grew my hair out really long. No clue why, I just didn't feel like cutting it. Anyway, I got tired of having really long hair because I thought it looked horrible on me so I had my Mom cut it(yes, my mom cut my hair :P). She did a pretty good job with it, but I want to go a little bit shorter(it's about Chin length right now). Because i'm pretty sick of the effort to get it to look alright. It usually only looks good if I hop into a shower and let it dry naturally all while periodically curling my hair outwards with my fingers(and odd routine, I know). But even then, it looks a bit frizzy with loose strings of hair popping out all over the place. Anyway, she says if I want to go any shorter i'll have to go to her hair stylist, because she isn't comfortable with her abilities.

I don't want to go to a hair stylist without a specific image in mind, so here I am, looking for ideas.

Good longer messy haircut?

When getting a haircut, having a good idea of what you want is very important. But knowing just what you want (and being able to explain how you want it done) is a predicament for anyone. When getting your haircut I personally think that it should be a haircut that is popular at the present time, describes you, and it must be easy to maintain.

Not everyone has the same hair type; one type of cut can make a man look stylish, while on others it may do just the opposite. It is important to know if your hair is normal, dry, oily, or a combination so that you can caterer your hairstyle to that type and therefore make it easier to handle and deal with. Also knowing what type of environment you are dealing with is helpful. If the hairstyle you are going for requires constant gelling and you are going to be at school all day, you may run into some problems.

Your body type is also a factor in deciding what cut is best for you. If you閳ユ獧e slim and straight, the goal is to add some body and curves where you can. Medium length, wavier, or chunkier hairstyles look best and add flair to this body type. Long bangs, layers, and angles also flatter. Don閳ユ獩 go too big-haired or your hair will look disproportionate to your body. Also avoid too long, too straight and sleek hair as it emphasizes your thinness. If you have a curvy and full body type, go for a layered, medium-length cut. An angled look will camouflage extra 閳ユ笡udge閳?on your face and neck. Try side parts and bangs for a soft, complementary look to your curves. Stay away from hair that is too short and close to the head or, in the opposite spectrum, long and very full. Round-shaped styles, like a curly ones with lots of height and width, are also not for you. If you閳ユ獧e Petite, keep hair loose, smooth, and neat for a professional, sleek appearance. Try medium to short length hair with layers, angles, and some height at the top of the head. Don't go to extremes. Too-short hair will make your head look too small, and too-long hair will overpower your figure. Last but defiantly not least, if you are tall and athletic, just experiment with hairstyles to see what flatters your hair texture and face shape. This body type works best with most hairstyles...

If you choose to wear your hair really short, try to make it short all over, not short on the bottom with the rest of your hair long on top like some attempt. For short hair, here are three things you can do: Try pushing your bangs forward as actor George Clooney has been seen doing (seeing what is popular on the celebrities is helpful in choosing a cut.), gel your bangs upward (not at a 90 degree angle!) and back in more of a diagonal by using gel or paste, and/or make your hair look "spikey" by using hair gel or similar products.

Another tip is to have a picture of what you want or of a haircut that is similar to your idea. This way the stylist will be able to give the cut better.

As for the links below: The first one is a website that provides galleries of different types of haircuts as well as tips and advice. The second one is a pretty neat 閳ユ抚irtual haircuts閳?that you can just mess around with and maybe get an idea of what a certain haircut style you are thinking of might look like on you.

I hope this helps. I apologize for its length ^_^; Hope the haircut looks great on you! It probably will though ;)
