which one? thined out, choppy layers or both? heres a pic of my hair when its straitened (with a flat iron) about 8 hours after I straitened it.

okay the easy way is take the hair style you want to a beauty shop...(yes you will need a girls help) and they will cut and fix it and tell you how to do it!

the do it your self way is go to a barber shop get it cut like the pic then go home wash it put straightening gel in it blow dry it strait brushing you bangs into your one of your eyes then take a small amount of styling wax and apply to tips of hair then your done!

looking at the emo hair pics, there seems to be different styles of emo hairstyles. but generally speaking, most of them appear to be thinned out and are shorter in the front (ie, bangs area) and the sides and back are longer. so basically, i guess that would mean choppy layers in the front. and like i said above, thinned out everywhere as well.
