Has anyone ever gotten a haircut at Paul Mitchell The School?

Paul Mitchell The School is a hair salon where you can get a cut, style, color, etc., hair, but the stylists are all students. It is pretty cheap to get your hair cut there, but top of the line products, etc are used, so I was just wondering if anyone has gotten their hair cut there, and if so, what their experience was like? (There is on in Tyson's Corner in McLean, VA, as well as locations in California, Hawaii, and elsewhere throughout the U.S.)

I haven't been to a Paul Mitchell school but I have been to an Aveda School in Minneapolis. I assume that they would be somewhat in the same category. Overall my experience was good. Just make sure that you know what you want, and if you are feeling a little leery don't do anything drastic your first time. Get a feel for it first. How it worked at Aveda was once you and the student discussed what you wanted done, the instructor would be brought over and briefed and would give the student any pointers if needed. The student would then preform the job and the instructor then came back to check the work. But I advise allowing a little extra time for all that checking. I found it a lot cheaper to do all over semi permanent dyes. Also, there wasn't too much room for error once the color was decided on. Good luck!

I haven't gotten a haircut at the school, but I've done a hair show for Paul Mitchell and a few of the stylists who did my hair were straight from the school or still go to the school, and of course it was an amazing experience.

Anybody want to tell me their best hair secret or tip to grow a few inches in less than 4 months or just any secret will do as i really want long hair because when i asked my stylist to trim of the split ends of my hair ( it was already waist length ) she cut off everything until my shoulder and it just wont seem to grow so help !!! they said that's it's impossible to have your hair grow any faster than normal. They also said that your hair naturally grows 1/2" each month, or a little faster during the summer. I was going to suggest prenatal vitamins it made my hair grow about 3/4" to 1" a month. It might help a little bit. Try this brand also : Nature Valley, just be careful and don't take too many they are full of hormons.

Dont go out and buy anything expensive.

First: Purchase a mild Shampoo (To Clarify hair, I will explain why)

Second: TRIM your hair ends (May 1 1/2 to 2 inches)

Third: Here's the magic part: Mix olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and a "little" honey, (honey u will have to heat so it can blend). Either leave on ALL day or all night (if all nite, DONT use honey)

Use a teaspoon of every oil and honey,.... a little more if ur hair is long or a little less if ur hair is short

Repeat this 3-4 times a week, your hair will grow like a weed, fortify, reconstruct, moisturize, soften %26amp; remove all frizz I promise,..... and it will be super shiny!!!!

The clairifying shampoo will help take the oil off your hair when u shower

You can also use a conditioner but get a light conditioner that wont wiegh ur hair down, becuz u can over condition, I use herbl essences "clean happy" conditioner.

When I do this at nite, I wake up, shampoo %26amp; condition, rinse and style as usual. Has worked for years

You can find olive oil anywere, but the other oils you will have to buy at a local organics store, wholes foods or BJ's health corner.

i don't think u should get it super skinny like girls and don't get it arched but u could clean up that unibrow and clean up the lonely hairs around ur eye brows. ur stylist might have just been trying to get money off of u so ask a trusted person if they think u should clean up ur brows :) Report It

I don't want this to be taken the wrong way, but if you're a straight man, leave the eyebrows well alone. Maybe if you have a monobrow, get them to do the middle, but the eyebrow itself, LEAVE IT ALONE!! (just my opinion, of course). People rave about that guy that plays the gardener in Desperate Housewives and don't get me wrong, he's good-looking and all, but those tailored eyebrows - eww!!

Besides, Colin Farrell has bushy eyebrows and he is hot!

alright, i want a crazy, over-the-top new hairdo. i have blonde (*shiver*) chin length hair but i want it shorter. it's naturaly straight. i want to dye it or get streaks or something, because the blonde simply doesn't fit me. spiking sounds like a good idea, but i'm completly clueless so i need some help. i recently got my butt-length hair cut short, but my stylist have me a nice cute little bob, which looks good, but it's just not me. also i wear lots of black. websites and pics would be appreciated. thanks in advance!

Victoria Beckham's Pob?

I recently went to a hairdresser to get my hair cut into the pob V. Beckham has. However it didn't turn out really anything like hers. I cut off over a foot of hair!!!! I really am contimplating letting it grow out again or trying with a new stylist for the cut. Does anyone know a really good stylist in the SOUTH FLORIDA area who does this cut VERY well?

I don't live near you but it is called "the inverted bob" meaning longer in the front and shorter in the back. Make sure you bring a good pic of her with you so you can get it corrected. SOrry it didn't turn out but good luck next time and hope the terminology helps a little.

I have gotten 2 really bad haircuts in the past 12 weeks. I am trying to find a hairstylist that can

hair like Victoria Beckham's. The last 2 stylists said they knew how to do it, but could not. My hair looks like s*** and nothing like VB. That's a tough question. A good haircut relies on many factors, including the stylist and the cut. a stylist with experiences is more likely to know what he/s is doing, but often time, experienced stylist cost a little more. I would call around to get quotes on the price of a hair cut.

Your first mistake wad in asking for a crappy haircut (The Posh Spice Bob) to begin with. It's not only crappy but it's an instant cliche. The only way you can salvage it is to cut it ALL off. Go to a Barber (not a stylist) and ask for a Buzz Cut. You'll love it!

I just got my hair cut today and the stylist/someone I know, asked what kind of shampoo I'm using because it probably has a lot of alcohol. I said Pantene pro-v and she said Pantene has a lot of alcohol and I should buy a shampoo and conditioner like redken or bedhead.

as a licensed hairdresser for 15 years, I can tell you diet does not affect the rate of hair growth, unless you are totally deficient in key nutrients. She told you that to ease up her mistake.

Hair does grow faster in summer though, so at least you have that going for you right now.

Also, if you try www.calorieking.com you can also check protein levels and carb levels of food (I think protein?) I know carb and fat levels for sure..and sugar levels. Tofu has lots of Protein in it,and so does soy beans.They have moe protein that meat,which is great,if your a vegitarian eggs and milk have plenty of protein in it but Tofu is the best,you can saute it with marshrooms and garlic.. .realy yummy!

These are only some of the many many foods. And it is recomended that a healthy man or woman(not pregnant or breastfeeding) only get about between 2.5% and 15% of protein from calories. i am 9 weeks, and it is horrible. i love to blame it on my epidural with my first, but ive really always had back problems. it just got worse after that. i am hair stylist on top of all of it, but i mostly sit in a saddle chair with back support to color and cut peoples hair, so i am not on my feet. i have one of those lavender and flax seed pillows that you warm in the microwave, it doesnt get that hot, not hot enough to hurt anything, but it still scares me. so what do you do?? like excercises, icy hot?? tylenol??

You need to sleep on your side with a pillow between your legs. I would also try going to a chiropractor.

the doctors have prescibed me about 5 or 6 different pain killers and mussle relaxers that I am also out of options. but I have noticed that if i sit in the shower with the nozzle on massage mode and just let it beat on my back it seems to releive the pain enough so that I can get through the day. so if you find another way you let me know.

well theres alot of exercise for pregnant people that are to strenghten ure back and make it more flexible i started doing them like 2 weeks ago still dont see much of a change but i mean its better than just suffering with the back pain its so annoying im 18 weeks with my first and i had never had such back pain ever! also i heard its ok to put the like icy hot to relieve the pain oh and at night when ure going to sleep to put a pillow between ure legs so it helps with ure back goodluck and congratulations!

Ask a few friends or family if they have a trusted chiropractor. If they don't then ring around a few and explain that you are pregnant. I went to a chiro when I was pregnant with my first because I had bad hips. Instead of doing all the "bone crunching" that they usually do he used more gentle forms of manipulation to help me out. It really worked. Maybe you should try standing a little at work, but also look at the way you move, lean and twist while you are doing peoples hair. You may inadvertently twisting the wrong way and aggravating the problem.

Oh and one more thing I would not use they heat pack. Lavender is sometimes used for women who suffer period pain, as it helps. Therefore the aroma could stimulate your reproductive organs and cause miscarriage or complications. It doesn't always, but there is a risk.

So yesterday I got my hair cut. I showed the stylist the picture of how I wanted me hair to look-short on the sides and in the back with heavy layers throughout. Well, let's just say she cut it way way way too short and it looks horrible. What can I do with it to make it look good? What styles work good with short hair? How do I do them?

No there isn't a name for it. But I have a suggestion. Tell the stylist you want long layers, the length just below your shoulders. And maybe some side bangs.

One time I had a client that was instructed by her husband to go get her hair cut. He said " Go cut off the bun. You look like a Pentecostal." (Her hair was down to her butt.But she hardly ever wear it down because it was so hot) So I gave her hair a much needed makeover. She looked SO beautiful. Her husband could not believe how she went from looking out of date and frumpy to some one he is proud of. She was so happy.

I saw this amazing hairstyle in a picture somewhere, and since then, I've been trying everything I can possibly think of to find it again. But I can't, nor can I find anything similar to the picture. I can't figure out what to do, because I love this hairstyle more than any other I've found.

I really want to cut my hair this way, but I'm afraid of just trying to describe it to the hair stylist (because of bad past experiences). And I can't find a picture. Is there anything I can do? Would hand-drawing it from memory be bad?

you can if that helps you but you may also want to.do this to make sure u get exactly what you want. when you get your hair cut give her an overview of what you want but also let her know to go slow so u can explain it better as you go along. make sure u tell her how u want it parted, the length, ect. if your hair stylest is not patient enough during your hair cut, don't let her finish, stop her immediately and get it done somewhere else, that way you can avoid a bad hair cut. remember you can always cut it to shorter but you can never cut it longer so when needed never tell her to cut off a bunch just an inch at a time and then u can say no a lil more.

if the hair stylist is experienced, they should know what they are doing...my suggestion would be to just describe it to the hair stylist or ask them if they have any hair style books that you could look at to try and find the hair style that you saw or something similar to it

I would recommend first talking to a friend (or two) about it. Preferably someone who knows a little bit about hair (i.e. someone you are familiar with who you think has nicely styled hair). You might take away from it a better understanding of what you want and it will give you a chance to practice explaining it to someone else.

Many hairstylists have their own way of doing things and in vision your hair in a modified version of what you really want. That being said閳?After talking to your friend(s) about the cut, make an appointment specifically as a consult (be sure to tell the receptionist/hairstylist this). When you go in for the consult wash and style your hair as you normally would on a daily basis (this will help the stylist understand how your hair falls and in turn how to cut it). Your hairstylist should sit you down and look at your face shape and at the texture of your hair. Explain to him/her what you are looking for and have them explain to you how they would cut it and why. If it all makes sense and you feel the person has fully grasped what you are wanting, then it閳ユ獨 time to make an appointment.

I know this seems like a lot of work for a haircut but unless your hair grows back really fast you will be living with it for a while so you might as well be happy with it.

i had my hair cut today, and the stylist trimmed my bangs weirdly so they are straight-across bangs that end at the top of my nose [eyelash length]. it looks SO bad on me because i have a round face and a small forehead. i told her i wanted to keep my angled side bangs, but she totally messed up.

how can i hide the bangs? when i pin them up to the side, the hair sticks out because it's a blunt cut and it looks horrible and messy.

how soon will it take before i can sweep them to the side? the ones at the opposite ends of the sweep are too short right now to sweep . . . when i try, it's at the middle of my forehead and looks ridiculous.

You think thats bad? I had my hair stylist cut my bangs way above my eyebrows.. I was so mad it took me to clips to get them back.. It took awhile for them to grow back ( but your hair will probaly grow at a differant rate than mine ) You could always buy some cute headbands and then put your hair in a pony tail.. It would look really good. ( Lululemon has cute headbands )It should take long till you can sweep them to the side. Good luck.

sorry to say messy is probably what you will have to do.

but use the messy still to your advantage.

pull the bangs back with a headband and if they stick up bobby pink them down.

pin them back and to the side their are on and pin the parts that stick up

you might have to use a lot of pins but it will look cute if you take time to move it around.

Its not that bad.

Belive me you are just not used to it and its hard to look at now. They grow retty fast so in about a month you will be able to do with them what you want. Meanwhile you can wear a head band and reveal ur forhead, or use obby pins and pin them up. or try parting them to the sideand maybe wait a lil bit and then cut them like reese witherpoon (the whispy full head bangs) that would look good on you. good luck

If you don't like it...you don't. Chances are no matter which way you lay your bangs you arent going to like it. Why not go back to the salon, politely tell them how unhappy you are, ask them what they can do, and 9 times out of 10 they will correct the mistake free of charge. Obviously, you can't replaced cut off hair, but maybe they can cut it different to make you happy.

Say that you want a cut with blunt bangs, slightly sideswept. Ask for choppy layers near the jaws. The best thing will be to bring the picture along with you.

Print the picture would be the best bet or try to find the style in a magazine. You cannot see the back of hair so it would be difficult to describe the cut to a stylist. From the picture it just looks like a side part with side bangs and a lot of layers. I would opt for trying to find the style in a hair magazine and buying it and take it to the salon. Most of the time the magazine will tell how to cut and how to style to achieve that particular look. Hope this helps...

a good stylist means, she know about her job i.e to see what style suits you best. all you have to tell her , what length you want, and how you want to maintain them. as you have to carry your hairs so you must guide your stylist about your convenience.for example some want them short and easy to maintain yet they want them long enough to tie them up when they want.

What should I do to fix this hair problem?!?

So I dyed my hair about a week ago at an amazing salon, the cut turned out wicked. However my hair has come out almost black which I'm so not happy with. I am going in on Thurs to discuss possible colour corrections with my stylist. I have already spent a lot on my hair considering I'm a student I don't want to spend a whole lot more. Anyway my question is when I go to meet with the stylist and possibly "fix" my hair, I'm wondering if I should get it stripped and re-dyed so I will be happy with the result or if I should go a different route and get a few highlights put in to break it up? I would appreciate feedback from any hairstylists out there!!!! I don't want to ruin my hair but I really don't want to leave it this horrible black either because it's dull and washes out my face completely. Please help!! I really wish colour could lift colour and I could just get a rinse to lighten it like 2 shades!

since the hair stlyist you originally went to screwed up your hair i wouldn't go back to her to fix i'd try a different one but anyways if you trust her i'd just let her use her best knowledge as to what to do with your hair and tell her you dont want to pay much because you dont have much money because you are a student and she's the one who screwed up your hair in the first place...if shes nice she will only charge you for the cost of the product...the hair dye...or maybe not at all.

A girl I know who is a hairstylist got a job at a salon. I don't know the owner, I do know another girl that works there. The girl that got the job burned my friends head and made her hair fall out. She mixes color with water to make the color lighter (thats stupid, you just use a lighter color, I am a hair stylist as well) After she quit where we worked together anyone who was dumb enough to let her cut their hair came to me to fix it. All their hair was a hot mess, nothing was even, a lot of the women had ended up with mullets. My question is, is it my business to make sure the owner of the new salon knows the things she does? Should I just let it go and let them find out for theirself? I really am worried that there will be a lawsuit. If I was in the owner's shoes I would want to know.

Didn't this person have to take State Boards? And generally hairdressers are constantly learning new things at seminars. And the owner of the place where you work didn't check what kind of work she did. That is a strange way to do a business. A reputation of a business is hard to mend once it has been damage ,and word of mouth travels fast.

If it appears that she is still making a hash of her work, then you might have a quiet word with the owner but, you have no idea at the moment whether or not she has taken additional qualifications or upgraded her knowledge. I do this.. Try putting your hair into two or three buns before you go to bed. In the morning take it out and comb through with your fingers..

Are all Hair Salons suppose to use sanitized brushes?

I went to an Aveda Salon the other day just for a cut..I went to a Junior Stylist since it was just a cut...when she was fixing my hair she took a brush out of her cart that already had hair on it and then she put it back in the cart. Is this normal?? My aunt is a stylist in ND and she said that she would be in deep crap with the state board if she did that but since I am in Ohio I don't know if it is different?

I *think* that all stylists are required to sanitize their tools after each use. However, one could sanitize (kill all microbes) without destroying all the hair that remained on the brush, and I know for a fact there's no way I could remove *all* the hair from my hairbrush. It would be wise, though, to bring up your concern to the management at that salon, especially if this is something that could get the stylist into even deeper trouble later on down the line.

A blonde walks into a salon wearing headphones and asks for a hair cut.

The hair dresser tells her she has to remove the headphones.

The blonde replies, "I can't remove them or I'll die."
