My hair is damaged PLEASE Help!?

I need a stylist advice on this. My hair is damaged and coming out. In order to stop this, I was told by someone that I need to cut it all off and start from scratch. I am a 26yr old African American woman and am too afraid of doing that to my hair, if I did that she said I would have to wear wigs or weaves until my own hair grows back. Someone please advise me on what the best thing to do is to get my hair back to growing and healthy

My hair is damaged PLEASE Help!?

here are some home remedies which are very good for dry hair. i had dry hair myself but when i tried these tips it was great! they've never been dry again!

Dont go out and buy anything expensive.

First: Purchase a mild Shampoo (To Clarify hair, I will explain why)

Second: TRIM your hair ends (May 1 1/2 to 2 inches)

Third: Here's the magic part: Mix olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and a "little" honey, (honey u will have to heat so it can blend). Either leave on ALL day or all night (if all nite, DONT use honey)

Beat up on an Egg: Separate the white of an egg from the yolk, and whip the white thoroughly. Then add 1 tablespoon of water to the yolk and blend until the mixture is creamy. Next, mix the white and yolk together. Wet your hair with warm water, remove the excess moisture, and apply the egg mixture to your scalp with your fingertips. Massage gently until the froth is worked into your scalp, and then rinse the hair with cool water. Keep applying the mixture until it is used up. Continue to rinse until all of the egg is washed away

Go for the Mayo: Heat up one half cup of mayonnaise until it becomes an oily, white goo and apply to dry, unwashed hair. Cover your hair with a plastic bag and leave on for at least 15 minutes. Then, rinse and shampoo thoroughly.

Mix up a Tropical Treat: Mash one over-ripe banana (the blacker, the better) with a mushy, rotten avocado. Massage this exotic puree into your hair and leave on for at least 15 minutes before washing out鈥n the kitchen sink!).

Grab a Cold One. Beer can give your dry hair a healthy sheen. Before you blow-dry or style, use a pump bottle to spray brew onto your hair. The beer will leave your hair shiny and sleek and its odor will disappear quickly.

In addition to using these home remedies regularly to avoid dry hair, try the following preventative measures:

Avoid overshampooing. Shampooing can wash away the hair's protective oils, so try washing less often and use a mild shampoo labeled "for dry or damaged hair."

Condition regularly. Conditioners protect the hair鈥檚 cuticle layer from splitting from the shaft. Pick a conditioner that works well for your hair and use it after every shampoo.

Wear a hat. Too much exposure to wind and sun can leave hair thirsty.

Trim off split ends. The biggest problem caused by dry hair is split ends. Schedule a trim every six to eight weeks to keep fraying ends under control.

Ease up on the heat. Heat (in the form of blow dryers, as well as straightening and curling irons) can quickly dry out hair. Let your hair air dry occasionally. Try using plastic cylinder rollers to straighten hair by wrapping slightly moist hair under and around rollers for about 10 minutes. For curling, try using sponge rollers overnight or sleeping with moist braids.

Don't swim without a cap. Use a rubber cap to protect your hair from the damaging effects of chlorine. If you must forgo a cap, rub a spoonful of olive oil into your hair before diving in.

Another thing is also putting in lotion in your hair after you have gotten out of the shower and you can also put in lotion in hair after you have dried it.

Just rub some lotion on your finger tips and run it through your hair evenly.

Also, something that will help your hair is to take COLDshowers. What most people dont know is that if you take hot showers, the heat gets rid of the oils and other things that your hair needs to be kept healty and shiney.

Smash an avocado and mix with jojoba and peppermint oils. Make sure its really smooth you may want to put it in a food processor with a little water. Then apply some to your scalp and the rest on your hair. Massage for a minute or so then put on a plastic cap. Leave for 15 to 30 minutes. The avocado and jojoba oils will moisterize and the peppermint will stimulate your scalp to loosen any dead skin and open your pores. It will feel great. Your hair will grow better and won't be dry. :)

Hope this helps!

the sooner you cut it the sooner it will grow back. but just get a short hair style and keep it up. i got a-lot of comments on how nice it was..

when hair gets severly damaged.. there isnt enough product in the world to get it to become healthy again... shaving it all off sound harsh, but it WOULD grow back healthy... eaither that or just cut it really short, and wait for it to grow out again... it's a naturual process.

i had really damaged hair as well. due to chemical straightening, flat ironing and coloring... i ended up cutting it short.. and it's much healthier now...

good luck!

When your hair grows it is already dead!! So what I can advise you to do as a stylist is if you know a stylist that can get you the Biologe conditioning treatments you will be all set. There is one that is used only in salons and then there is a 5 pack which you purchase and keep up at home. I've tried tons of treatments and I have to say that I think that this one works the best!!! It's a little pricey but I swear by this product. Maybe you can even find it on line if you don't know a stylists personally.

The 1st product is: Biolage cera-repair pro (salon use about 15 dollars in the beauty supply store, but you get a lot of it)

The 2ND product is: Biolage cera-repair (comes with 5 tubes and is about 10 dollars)

Good luck and I hope I helped!!! If worse comes to worse I would shave it and wear wigs you might like a new look every couple of days!!!

Okay, I've had some hair nightmares. My hair is now past shoulder length. About a year ago I went to get it cut because I had a similar problem as yours. Mine kept breaking off in the back, center of my head. Well, to make a long story short, the stylist cut it really short and I was traumatized. I just now got it this length.

Can you possibly grown the hair at the very top of your head over the bald spot? Then you won't have to cut it all one length. And, if your hair is falling out, how will cutting it all off make it stop? You should tell a stylist to save every last inch she can and tell her the MOST you want cut off i.e. 2 inches, 3 inches, etc. My hair is still shorter in the back center of my head, but no one can tell, because the hair from the top of my head covers it. If I cut it all one length I'd probably have 2 or 3 inches of hair, instead of my long hair. I'd never do that. I love my long hair.

Good luck.

Even though it sounds traumatic to cut off your hair, it is probably the best thing for you. One of the wonderful things about hair is that it grows back. Hair grows about 1/4" to 1/2" a month. If you take care of your hair after you cut it, it should grow back in no time at all. In fact, some women look very nice with short hair. While you are growing back your hair you need to be sure and avoid whatever it was that damaged your hair in the first place so you don't have to go through this again. We have a hair repair kit that contains moisturizing and gentle hair products for black and African hair, as well as two books that contain information to help you learn how to take care of your hair without harsh chemicals and wigs or weaves.
